Goatstyle

Goatstyle is one of my favourite events of the year. Being that I grew up in the Kootenays, it's naturally one of the events that I go the extra mile to get to. This years course was bigger than ever and the calibre of riders was supersized as well. Friday night lights is basically a Throw-your-gnarliest-trick-for-money kinda evening and man, did it ever get gnarly. Double flips, double whips, double anything really. A really fun event and a cool way to spend an evening.
The following day was qualifying. Every category but one completed their runs but during course maintenance a freak storm rolled in and devastated the course. The 25 foot tall starting structure was blown clear over and destroyed. Luckily no one was hurt. The Goatstyle crew responded quickly and with determination. They took the nearly untouched curved wall feature on the course and flipped in 90 degrees making it into a whale-tail style drop in/step down. With a bit of a rearrangement of the schedule for finals, the event continued. The finals were an impressive showdown with Greg Watts taking first place, Mike Montgomery coming in second and Graham Aggassiz grabbing 3rd spot.
